This report proposes a holistic approach to youth well-being. It recognizes that education, employment, entrepreneurship, mental health, and participation are intertwined and influence the development of life plans, and that none of these dimensions exists in isolation from the others.

For example, a young man who finds a job but drops out of school, a young woman who starts a business but lacks support networks, or a group that leads neighborhood initiatives but faces barriers to accessing funding—all are experiencing fragmented trajectories in which progress in one area does not compensate for shortcomings in others.

This report is organized into four sections that invite readers to explore these different dimensions.

• The first section presents a sociodemographic analysis of the city’s youth: how many there are, where they live, their material circumstances, and how they are distributed by age, gender, socioeconomic status, and neighborhood.
• The second section delves into economic autonomy through employment and entrepreneurship, examining barriers and opportunities.
• The third section addresses education, mental health, and participation as fundamental dimensions of well-being that decisively influence young people’s opportunities to feel and be well and to plan for their future.

Each topic presents an up-to-date overview, identifies the main barriers facing the city, and proposes avenues for moving toward more comprehensive solutions. Finally, the report concludes with a call for Barranquilla to come together: to recognize, connect, and strengthen the efforts already underway in the public sector, the private sector, academia, social organizations, international cooperation, and youth leadership.
